  • About

    • Art & Acquisition is an art advisory service focused on art of the 20th and 21st centuries.

We help collectors source exceptional artworks, developing their relationships with artists, galleries, and institutions while offering strategic guidance in an often opaque art market. Based in New York and Los Angeles, we work with collectors new to or established in their process.

  • Process

    • Art & Acquisition works with buyers and sellers in all contexts, from forming entire collections to developing bespoke single projects. Ongoing, personal conversation forms the basis of our relationship with each client. In acquiring or deaccessioning, we place rare, high-quality material through our established network of auction houses, galleries, private collections, and dealers. We ground our guidance in market data and intellectual analysis, giving collectors confidence and transparency throughout the sometimes complex process of locating and acquiring the right artwork.

  • Team

    • Vivian Brodie and Alex Perweiler created Art & Acquisition in 2022 to synthesize their experience in modern and contemporary art.

Vivian Brodie started at Christie’s in 2008 in the Post-War and Contemporary department, where she specialized in western art from 1945 to the present day and eventually became head of private sales in New York. Later, she was a director at an established art advisory firm and worked with several nonprofits. She serves on the board of the Shandaken Project and continues to curate exhibitions.

Alex Perweiler cofounded the influential arts organization The Still House Group in 2007. He oversaw the Group’s publications and residency program for artists outside the US, and contributed as an artist, dealer, and curator. Over the Group’s decade of practice Perweiler directed over 100 exhibitions in various countries, placing thousands of artworks. He later became an art advisor with a particular interest in blue chip and historical material, and ran Manual Arts, a Los Angeles-based project space committed to showing artists of his generation.

Together, Brodie and Perweiler offer complementary fields of expertise to guide clients in refining, expanding, or initiating their collections.
